Nightmare Types — Illusion Connect Re Enemy Guide
Medium threatUpdated 2026-06-04
Nightmares are the primary enemy faction in Illusion Connect Re. They spawn in waves during story missions, events, and boss raids. Each Nightmare type has unique attack patterns, elemental affinities, and weaknesses that you can exploit with the right team composition.
Common Nightmare types
- Shadow Grunts: basic melee units that rush the front line. Weak to Attacker-class Illusionists and single-target burst damage.
- Cursed Archers: ranged Nightmares that target back-row units. Use Guard-class characters to absorb arrows while Healers sustain the team.
- Nightmare Mages: cast area-of-effect spells that hit your entire formation. Interrupt them with Sorcerer-class counters or burst them down before they finish casting.
Elite Nightmares
Elites appear from chapter 5 onward and in event stages. They have inflated health pools, resist crowd control effects, and carry dangerous passives like lifesteal or damage reflection. Check the Character Role Guide to see which Illusionists counter each elite type effectively.
| Elite Type | Threat | Best Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Shadow Lord | High | Healer + Guard combo |
| Cursed Knight | High | Attacker burst damage |
| Void Weaver | Extreme | Sorcerer AOE + Soul Bond synergy |
Always bring at least one Guard-class Illusionist to story stages. They soak damage that would otherwise wipe your back line in a single wave.
FAQ
- Do Nightmare types change between game modes?
- Yes. Arena PVP uses player-controlled teams instead of Nightmares. Boss Raids feature unique boss Nightmares with raid-specific mechanics. Event stages often introduce limited-time Nightmare variants with exclusive drop tables.
